REJECT THE BABU SETTLEMENT: INVEST IN CARE, NOT CAGES

When: Wed, October 27th, 6-7PM
Where: Zoom
What: Community Teach-In on the Babu Settlement

Come to one of the teach-ins to learn why and how you can made your voice heard!
The one-hour teach-in will provide an overview of what the Babu v. Ahern settlement is and why we should fight it.

Babu v. Ahern is a class action lawsuit (filed on behalf of all adults who are currently or will in the future be incarcerated in Alameda County Jail) claiming that the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) fails to provide adequate mental health care at Santa Rita Jail (SRJ). The lawsuit was filed in 2018 by the law firm Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld, LLP (RBGG), who recently entered into a settlement with Alameda County.

THE SETTLEMENT IS UNACCEPTABLE AND PRIORITIZES FUNDING FOR THE SHERIFF, AND WILL NOT IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND OR WELL-BEING OF INCARCERATED PEOPLE AT SRJ.

But, in partnership with lawyers from the National Lawyers Guild and other partner organizations, you can file a legal objection as well as participate in actions to make your concerns known.
